It’s funny that I was just talking to a friend about this the other day, saying that I couldn’t wait until HBO‘s Insecure comes back on TV. I was ready to see if Issa and Lawrence were going to rekindle their relationship, or if she was going to give ghosting-bae (Nathan) another chance.
Then, out of no-freakin’-where I find out that Insecure is not returning to give us everything we need and desire until 2020? Nooooooooooo!!! What is we g’on do in the meantime???
I’m sending prayers up to the HBO Gods, lighting sage, and playing around around with crystals, trying to recover from this gut-punch of bad news that I didn’t see coming.
Why would they do this to us?Apparently, Ms. Issa Rae out here being a bad bitch, staying booked and busy, and HBO is unable to keep her on lock. Click To Tweet
According to reports from the Source, HBO‘s Programming Chief Casey Bloys broke the news, stating:
“Well, Issa has become a big movie star! We’re not the first place to deal with this, but when you’re in business with very creative and talented people, there’s a lot more opportunities for people to do things. Issa, I think, partly, wanted a break to come back to it fresh.”
And he’s right… Issa is out here handling her business—just not on Insecure right now.
Currently she’s starring in the comedy Little, alongside Marsai Martin (ABC‘s Black-Ish) and veteran actress Regina Hall.
In addition to that, Issa’s filming an upcoming romance, The Photograph, alongside co-star Lakeith Stanfield, who also stars in the critically-acclaimed FX series, Atlanta. Plus, she’s just wrapped another comedy, The Lovebirds, which is slated to hit theaters March 2020.
Yep. Issa’s working-working.
HBO‘s executives say that they expect Insecure to return to the screen and pick up right where it left off last season, and with the same cast that we’ve come to know and love. Now, we just need a date. Give us a little something to work with over here. Sheesh!
