In a November 2020 interview on Talib Kweli’s podcast People’s Party, rapper DMX went into detail and discussed the origin of how be became addicted to drugs in his teens.
During the conversation, DMX talked about how when he was 14, getting into mischief, and hanging out with his mentor/friend, Ready Ron, he, unknowingly, tried crack-cocaine. He stated that when they had returned to the spot after some criminal activities, Ron rolled a blunt and passed it to him, without revealing that it was laced with crack. DMX went on to say that once he took a hit, he was never the same. Check out DMX’s interview below.
DMX has been telling this same story for years and years. The only piece of his story that was suspect was when he claimed that Ron was 30 years old at the time. If you do the math, Ron was born in 1965, while DMX was born in 1970, which makes them only five years apart. So, Ron would have been around 19 or 20 during that time.
Ready Ron recently took to his IG story to set the record straight and debunk any claims that he was responsible for getting DMX hooked on hard drugs.

In his story, Ron went hard on the age discrepancy, saying that there was no way that he was 30 years old in 1985.
“How was I thirty-years-old in 1985 and he was 14,” Ron stated. “And him and I are only three years apart. You gotta remember, just because somebody is world-famous doesn’t mean they’re always honest. And I’ve got nothing bad to say about him, but you gotta stop lying on me.”
He also claimed that he was supposed to be a part of the Ruff Ryders five-part docu-series on BET, but that his contributions was edited out of the final cut.
Ron says that he has been getting hate mail since the recent passing of DMX and claimed that they all were getting high back then.
DMX fans were not trying to hear Ron’s side of the story. Most were wondering why he decided to come out and refute the claims now, but not while DMX was still alive.
