In a recent interview with Atlanta radio personality Ryan Cameron, singer Maxwell took the time to speak on the reason that he chose to opt-out of the VERZUZ battle with fellow neo-soul singer D’Angelo.
The popular social media series, VERZUZ, is where two legends in the same field of music, show up for some friendly live competition and perform a run-down of their most popular hits, while the fans deliver their reactions, by commenting while the battle is underway.
D’Angelo and Maxwell were set to take the VERZUZ battle stage together on February 27, but only D’Angelo showed up. The “battle” quickly turned into a full-on D’Angelo concert, in which he brought out other performers, such as H.E.R. and Method Man.
Unfortunately, Maxwell was nowhere to be found.
Maxwell, in the interview with Cameron, stated that it was just “a question of timing”. He also went on to say that there were some personal issues that prevented him from showing up to take the stage with D’Angelo.
