New Music From DMX- “Been To War” With Swizz Beatz and French Montana

The first posthumous new music release from DMX has been released exactly one week after the legendary rapper’s death.

DMX, who passed away last Friday (April 9) after suffering a heart attack from an alleged drug overdose, is featured on a new track, Been To War, along with Swizz Beatz and French Montana.

Been To War is one of many new songs that will be featured on the upcoming soundtrack for season 2 of Epix series, Godfather of Harlem, starring the Academy Award-winning Forest Whitaker as 1960s gangster, Bumpy Johnson, which will air on the network on April 18, 2021. Check out Been To War below.

In my opinion, this is the typical New York-style don’t-get-in-my-way type of hip-hop, with Swizz Beatz chanting, I done been to hell/I done been to jail throughout the song.

DMX comes in with his signature mixture of a gruff and raspy tone. He definitely delivers what was expected. His sound and the way that he executes has not waivered throughout the years. DMX was one of those rappers who found tremendous success, due to skill and uniqueness.

French Montana comes in on the last verse of Been To War. Admittedly, I was not that impressed with his flow. I’m not really sure why they picked him for a hardcore-style track like this. I would’ve rather heard someone like Method Man or Redman to close this one out. But, that’s just me.

Nevertheless, I’m excited to hear new music featuring DMX, so soon after his untimely passing.

According to many reports, DMX also had a chance to finish a full studio album, which he recorded in Nashville, TN.

The album is expected to be released some time this summer.

I’ll certainly be keeping an ear out for that one.

What do you think?
