Former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan abruptly walks off his show, and later quits, after being called out by co-host/weatherman, Alex Beresford, for being “diabolical” in how he constantly trashed Meghan Markle.
Morgan ridiculed the wife of Prince Harry after the couple, in a recent sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey, made some explosive allegations against the royal family, which included racism, bullying, and just overall mistreatment.
Morgan, who briefly dated Markle before she met and married Prince Harry, basically accused Markle of lying about having mental health issues after she confessed to Winfrey in Sunday night’s interview that she’d experienced having suicidal thoughts while living in London and repeatedly being scrutinized by certain members of the royal family.
During the bombshell interview, Markle also mentioned that there were conversations among some members of the royal family, which discussed whether or not her and Harry’s child’s (Baby Archie) complexion would turn out dark, suggesting racist behavior.
A belligerent Morgan, on his popular morning show, referring to Markle, declared, ““I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she said, Meghan Markle. I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report.”
Ofcom, UK’s communications regulator, launched an investigation early Tuesday morning (03/09) after receiving nearly 41,000 complaints, ridiculing Morgan’s behavior on the show the day before.
Following the start of the investigation and the Piers Morgan backlash, ITV released the following statement on Tuesday evening (UK local time): “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”
