In the latest episode of Jada Pinkett-Smith’s Red Table Talk on Facebook Watch, also co-hosted by Willow and Adrienne “Gammy” Banfield-Norris (Jada’s mother), Willow revealed to the viewers that she leads a polyamorous lifestyle.
According to Willow, polyamory, which is the act of engaging in multiple romantic (typically sexual) relationships, with the consent of all parties involved, has become a prevalent way of life for many Gen Z’ers.
During her public revelation, Willow expressed how traditional marriage irked her.
“With polyamory, I feel like the main foundation is the freedom to be able to create a relationship style that works for you and not just stepping into monogamy because that’s what everyone around you says is the right thing to do,” said the 20 year-old Willow.
Willow also stated that although she has an alternative lifestyle, she could honestly say that she has “least amount of sex”, compared to her close friends who are in monogamous relationships.
While Jada was very supportive of Willow’s lifestyle choice; Gammy was not so understanding, as she stated that she valued a more traditional romantic relationship.
Jada expressed that some people choose monogamous relationships because “they feel that they have no other choice.” She also went on to say that the majority of married couples end up practicing, “unethical non-monogamy” and “acting a fool” anyway.
At that time Gammy piped up and added: “That’s called cheating, y’all?”
Over the course of the episode, the trio interviewed a couple, in which one was married to another person, and another young lady who had recently adopted the lifestyle.
